OUR HOME ON WHEELS - NZ

Our Caravan

We have a 16ft 1972 Oxford Crystal Deluxe Caravan. This near 50yo caravan was New Zealand made and is a Kiwi Classic. Her interior has been completely gutted, and is newly renovated - a process done entirely by us (with some help from Nathan's Dad!)

Some of the features of our caravan include:

Sleeping areas:

  • Full double bed

  • Loads of underbed & end of bed storage

  • A set of bunks for the kids, with a fully enclosed baby safety screen on the lower bunk

  • Bedside lights + USB plugs at the head of every bed.

Outside:

  • 1 x 9kg gas bottles

  • A roof awning (we're on the lookout for an enclosed one before winter)

  • Exterior LED light

Kitchen:

  • 2 burner stove + grill an overhead rangehood

  • large sink with 12v pump

  • tons of kitchen/pantry storage

  • An upright 12/240v fridge/freezer

  • LED lighting above the benchtop

Power:

We're fully setup up for off grid camping with:

  • 2 x large Redarc solar panels fixed to the roof (so far we haven't need to plug into power!)

  • An amazing Redarc battery management system that we love

  • USB plugs throughout, a cigarette style plug, & 3 x 240v plugs for when plugged into mains power

  • A 700W Redarc pure sine wave inverter for running 240v products off grid

Heating & Cooling:

  • 4 x usb powered small fans to keep cool

  • A diesel heater to keep warm

Ensuite:

  • A portaloo that lives under the bed but is easily accessible via a hatch

  • A rechargeable 12v shower with submersible pump so we can have hot showers on the go

Our Vehicle

We have a 2011 Mitsubishi Pajero that we shipped over to New Zealand with us from Australia. It cost us roughly $4.5k to get it across, but we really love this vehicle and it's been fully equipped by us for our travels, so it was definitely worth it.

When we first got the vehicle it was factory standard, so we had a lot of work to do to kit it out for our travels. We've since added a full duel battery 12v system with solar panels on the roof, custom made rear storage, upgraded suspension & rear airbags, a roof rack, SmartBar bulbar, Ultra Vision spotlights & a Sherpa 4x4 winch. The bulk of these additions have been DIY projects.

Check out the video below to see how we've set up the rear of our Pajero
