Our Vehicle

We have a 2011 Mitsubishi Pajero that is fully kitted out for our travels. We started our trip with a 2010 Mitsubishi Triton, but it was nothing but trouble so in September 2017 we traded it in & purchased the Pajero.

When we first got the vehicle it was factory standard, so we had a lot of work to do to kit it out for our travels. We've since added a full duel battery 12v system with solar panels on the roof, custom made rear storage, upgraded suspension & rear airbags, a roof rack, SmartBar bulbar, Ultra Vision spotlights & a Sherpa 4x4 winch. The bulk of these additions have been DIY projects.

Check out the video below to see how we've set up the rear of our Pajero

Our Camper Trailer

We have a 2017 hard floor, off road Cub Camper trailer which we absolutely love. We chose a camper trailer because we wanted the ability to go absolutely everywhere we could get in a 4x4, and we've definitely been able to do that with this setup.

We began our travels with a 2015 version of the same trailer, which was unfortunately written off in May of 2017 while we were travelling through Sydney. Someone failed to give way and unfortunately a nasty accident followed, with the camper so badly damaged that the insurance company wrote it off. Fortunately though nobody was injured, and CIL Insurance replaced our camper new for old, hence why we now have a 2017 version.

We knew exactly what we were looking for in a camper when we first went looking back in 2015, and we've always been really happy with our choice. We own an 'Escape' model of trailer, but it's also very customised - we picked & chose which items we wanted in the trailer when we had it made, and we've also added a bunch of items in ourselves.

Some of the features of our trailer include:

  • Full queen sized bed

  • Loads of underbed & end of bed storage

  • A single bed stretcher for Ryan

  • Bedside lights + strip LED lighting

  • 2 x 4kg gas bottles

  • 2 x 20L jerry cans

  • A full awning + one canvas side wall & one shade cloth wall

  • Kitchen lights + a portable LED floodlight

  • Extra handpump on drawer bar with soap attached for easy water access & handwashing while traveling

  • 3 burner stove

  • sink with 12v pump

  • tons of kitchen/pantry storage

  • A fridge box & slide in which we have a 60L Engel dual zone fridge/freezer

  • A clip on side shelf giving us tons of bench space

We're fully setup up for off grid camping with:

  • 2 x solar panels - a cheap eBay folding set plus a Redarc solar blanket which run our entire set up (no generator required!)

  • An amazing Redarc battery management system that we love

  • USB plugs at the bed head, multiple merrit plug outlets + a 240v plug for when plugged into mains power

Heating & Cooling:

  • 2 x Sirocco fans + a tropical roof to keep cool

  • A diesel heater to keep warm (details here)

  • A portaloo that lives in the trailer

  • A pop up shower tent + rechargeable 12v shower with submersible pump so we can have hot showers on the go
