KARIJINI NATIONAL PARK, WA
KARIJINI NATIONAL PARK
This has got to be up there as one of the absolute best National Parks in Australia! You'll find Karijini in the Pilbara near Tom Price, Western Australia. And many people incorporate it into their "big lap" by cutting in at Port Headland or Karratha to Karijini then heading out towards Exmouth (or visa versa).
With stunning gorge after stunning gorge you're bound to find a little piece of paradise. And even though it was school holidays and super busy we still managed to find a few spots all to ourselves.
We hiked, we climbed, we swam, we relaxed, and we celebrated a 5th birthday. (And yes we had a slight little encounter with Bitey McSnakeface that unfortunately brought our time in Karijini to an abrupt end - check out the full story here).
If you're planning a visit you can camp at Dales Gorge campground like we did ($11 per adult, toilets but no showers). Or there is the Eco Resort if you prefer actual accommodation, or a powered site & hot showers. There is also a free camp (no facilities) out by Hammersley Gorge that is just outside the national park boundary.
Then it's just a matter of deciding which gorge to explore first!
