Every now and then you come across a place so special that even though you'd only planned to stay a few days you can just see yourself still there weeks later.
Well you're going to want to add Carinya Station just out of Lightning Ridge, New South Wales, Australia to your lists as it is definitely one of those places!
Jacinda, Joe & their kids have been opening up their property for people to camp on completely FREE for the last 5 years. And while some help around the place in exchange is appreciated, it's by no means expected.
You'll need to be fairly self sufficient as far as toilets and showers go (although you will find free hot showers at the hot springs in town) but they've got tons of space, lots of animals to keep the kids entertained, and a wonderful communal, friendly atmosphere with happy hour by the fire every night, and the occasional meal at the homestead (last night was pizza night!)
This is free camping at its absolute best and we're pretty stoked to have found this absolute gem of a place. In fact we may never leave 😉
You can find them on WikiCamps for more information, or check out their Facebook page. Make sure you call ahead to let Jacinda know you're coming.
