🏝🏝 WOODY ISLAND 🏝🏝
We've been hanging to get out to Woody Island ever since we arrived in Esperance, so pretty stoked we finally got to spend a weekend there!
Woody Island is the only inhabited Island in the Recherche Archipelago (or Bay of Isles as it's also known) off the coast of Esperance, Western Australia. Meaning it's the only island you can spend the night on! It's a popular spot with locals, but not so many travellers seem to have cottoned on yet.
It's only accessible by boat, but if you don't have your own then Woodyislandecotours can take you across on theirs. They do day tours but we highly recommend you stay a night or two to really get the most out of the island.
We hiked, kayaked, snorkeled, fished, downed a drink (or three) in the bar, watched the sun rise & set, and relaxed listening to the chorus of the dozens of small birds who inhabit the island.
If you want to stay the night you can take your own camping gear over, or they have permanent tents & safari huts if you fancy a bit of glamping. There's a great camp kitchen so you can self cater to save some $$'s, or there is also a licensed bar & kiosk that does a great fish & chips if you can't be arsed cooking.
Let's face it, the whole Esperance area is bloody fantastic and well worth whatever time you can spare. We're loving this part of the world!
