Whenever people ask us why we chose to travel I normally answer with “why not?”. But apparently that’s not a good enough reason for most people, so lets give you a few more.
Picture this: We had a lovely 4 bedroom 2 bathroom house, that we thought we needed (we certainly managed to fill it anyway) Nathan was working full time as a Carpenter driving all over Melbourne for work, then coming home and working on improving the house at weekends. He had unpaid invoices into the tens of thousands of dollars because people seem to think it’s ok to not pay their contractors for weeks or even months, so we were constantly chasing money that was owed. Renee was working 2 jobs, one in a busy Emergency Department that she’d been in for 4 years and was starting to feel a bit same same. And another as a Nursing Educator that required a ton of preparation and marking at home in her own time. We were making good money but all of it seemed to be going back in to the house, and we seemed to have very little time to spend together as a family. We were so lucky to live in a large house, that we owned (well us & the bank), in a beautiful area, with a gorgeous son, in jobs that paid a decent income. But our lives were stretching out before us the same for year after year and we just felt there had to be a different way of living.
So we left. And guess what? It was the best thing we ever did.
